MONDLI KUNENE

GRAPA Artist Mondli Kunene

Self-trained South African artist Mondli Kunene, uses his artwork to challenge the socio-political status quo that he observes in South African society, where he lives and creates. Kunene is as deeply passionate about his craft, as he is about change, and is quickly gaining attention for both.

Mondli has been featured in numerous articles and magazines, including Pepper Magazine in the United States. He obtained an honorary award in the Theatre and Arts category at the Forty Under 40 Africa Awards, which recognizes exceptional contributions on the African continent, by those using their skills to inspire change. In 2024, he was nominated for Outstanding Visual Artist in South Africa´s Cultural and Creative Industry Awards. Kunene paints under MONDLIART®, which he founded. His works have been collected globally and exhibited in Canada and India.

This collection continues Mondli´s multifaceted exploration of social and economic justice. In his collection for THE GRAPA, Mondli Kunene explores the situation of women and girls, modernity and tradition, as well as capitalism and exploitation.
